Ilonry Wriglit, claim to lccover £7 Is on a judgment summons. —Tho defendant did not appear, and was ordeied to pay tho amount claimed forthwith (costs, 10s 6d). Default Mas fixed at eight dajs' impiisonment. _ A Money-Lending Tiansaction.—William John Willi lnvjon pioceodcd against Georgo G. Gotham for the recovery of £92, being balance ot amount lent on promissory notes. Mr Dawson ai pcared ior the defendant, and stated that tne case w<ls covered by tho Moitgagcs 3\i elision Act, 1914. —In evidence, tho phmitilt said that ho had lent tho defendant £100, ior which he rooened two promissory notes. Security for these was obtained, and tho rata ot interest agreed upon. The defendant had paid off various 1 sums, lea\ing £92 owing, but a further rc- . duction to £84 10s had been arranged with the defendant's bohcitors, and ,io now ' claimed for that amount —'1 he claim was altered accordingly. —After further evidence 1 tile magistrate nonsuited plaintiff (willi costs ' £4 12s), upholding Mr Dawson's claim that the caso eama undei the Mortgages intension Act, 1914. Union Arieais. —The Amalgamated Society of Caj-penteis and Joiners v. A r thur Kiiby, claim £b 18s for conhibutions and le\ies ' ppjablo by the defendant as a member of 1 tile union.—ln this caso judgment had been f reserved, and m giving his decision the magistrate slated that the union was a branch ot an English society, and according to its rules theie were two classes of members —tho trade section and tho ordinary section. Tho defendant awls an otdinaiy section member, and ho claimed that the union's right of action was limited to 12 months' contributions, and that fuch contributions weic limited to whit would be lecoverable unclir tho trade section. Again, any worker whose subscription was 12 months in arrears ceased to be a member, and this rulo applied to tho defendant in the present case. Had tho union been registered in New Zealand i nder the Ti ades Union Act, 190'3, as well as under tho Con- . ciliation and Arbitration Act, he consideied it would have been entitled to suo for tho full subscription claimed. The union was entitled to iciwcr the subscription due for I tht' first 12 months only, and judgment would bo entcied for plaintiff for £4 7s Bd, and costs (£4 12=).
