LEAGUE OF HONOUR

CALL TO PRAYER AND HUMILIATION. Tito aims anil purpose of tho Australasian League of Honour and an appeal to observe from May 21 to May 28 as a week of special prayer and humiliation were considered at a meeting of representative women held at the \'.\V .C.A. rooms yesterday afternoon. The president of the Y.W.C.A. (Mrs 11. E. Wilson) presided, and those present represented the Ota go Women's Club, tlio Vi 9" toria League, the Otago Women's Patriotic Association, the Red Cross Society, and the Women's National Reserve. It was explained that the League of Honour was affiliated with the League Honour for Women and Girls of the Empire. It aimed at binding together the women and girls of the nation m the service of God and country during thiß time of danger and trial through this great war. Tho league believes that the strongest bond of union between women is tho power of united prayer. Its aim is not to form new societies, but to reinforce'existing ones. At this time the Australasian League, realising the immensity of the problem confronting the Empire, is appealing to all women and girls in the commonwealth and dominion to unite in observing a week of humiliation and prayer from May 21 to May 28. This ■proposal was unanimously approved by the meeting yesterday, and Empire Day, May 24, is to be made the centre of. the whole movement. Tho ladies present said thoy were confident tho organisations they represented were sympathetic and anxious to help, and would take what steps they ™<ild to observe tho week as proposed. Each society will work through its own_ existing organisations and form prayer circles in connection with its own regular gatherings. Special times of prayer are to be arranged to lead up to this work, and on Empire Day, from 11 to 12 and 'from 3 to 4, and a third period yet to 'be fixed will be set apart for prayer. All the meetings are exclusively for women, except one to be held on tho evening of Empire Day, in which ministers will take part. The league suggests as special topics for prayer our ruleri and commanders, our nation and Empire, and the coming of the Kingdom of God in all the world.
