A LONELY END

FOUND IN JUBILEE PARK. MK H. Y. 'Widdowson, as coroner, conducted an inquest at the morgue yesterday afternoon into the circumstances of the death of a young man named Michael Flynn, who was found dead in Jubilee Park last Wednesday. Sergeant Mackenzie represented the police James Flynn, farmer, of Morven, identified the body as that of his brother, who was a single man, 30 years of age. Deceased was not of a robust constitution, and had been attended by a doctor at Waimate. Witness last saw his brother about October of last year, when he left Morven. Witness did not know where his brother was until he heard of his death.

Marion Harris, housekeeper at the Albion Lodging House, Maclaggan street, said she knew deceased as a lodger. He went to Albion House on December 3. Witness last saw him some time after 3 o'clock on Tuesday morning. He was in the back yard, and went out through the passage. He looked to bo delicate, and was a quiet and inoffensive man. Deceased went out every day. -Witness never saw any signs of drink about him. He had done no work since he came to Dunedin. Once he referred to seeing a doctor at Waimate. He was not home on the Tuesday evening prior to hie death. Witness did not know anything about his arrangements for meals. Lachlan Grant, a driver employed by J. J. Purdie, said that about 3 o'clock on Wednesday afternoon a young woman asked him to go down to see a man lying underneath a tree about 100 vor ISO yards from the Maori road, and some 10 yards from a track. Witness tried to rouee him, and found he was dead. The police were communicated with as soon as he got back to Mr Purdie's yard. Dr Evans said he had examined the body and found no marks of violence or signs of injury. There was marked emaciation, and decomposition had set in. He could not determine the cause of death from external examination. A post mortem examination revealed old pleurisy on both sides, and there were tubercular patches in the right lung. Both lungs had collapsed following the entrance of the air into the pleural cavities. There was no sign of disease in the other internal organs. Tho body did not appear to be well nourished. Witness judged that deceased had been in ill health for some considerable time. Tho cause of death was thoracic pneurrjonia secondary to tubercular mischief of the lung. In his opinion deceased had been dead two days when witness examined the body on Thursday afternoon. Constable Milne said that deceased had £5 5s 8d in his possession, and a Post Office Savings Bank book containing 15s. The Coroner returned a verdict that the deceased died on Mny 2. the cause of death , being as stated by Dr Evans.
