DUNEDIN ORPHANS' CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. Tho annual meeting of tho Denied in Orphans' Club was hold on Tuesday night in tho Waratah Toa Rooms. Bro. G. W. MTntosh presided over a good attendance of member*. Tho Mayor (Mr J. J. Clark) wrote conveying hiw deep and sincere thanks for tho extremely kind and valuable help they had given in connection with the welcome to the returned soldiers. On many occasions ho had called upon them far help in providing the musical portion of civic functions, and on every occasion they had cheerfully given their services. It was gratifying to lind tho members so willing to do their utmost to assist ill all patriotic and civic matters, and ho desired to give them his deep and genuine thanks for their most valuable services. His appreciation of their work was best shown by the numerous calls he madu upon them. Tho annual report stated that during Lift season 38 new members wetio elected (46 were elected in 1914). After allowing for resignations and removals, tho roll at tho end of the season numbered 170 (including life and orchestra! members). It was tho sad duty of the executive to place on record the death of one of tho club members who so nobly responded to the call of the Ernpiro —Bro. Georgo Roach, who died at Cairo. In addition to tho names already placed on record, the following members were now on active service:—Bros. Neil Black. C. J. Davie, 11. S. Fraer, A. G. Pamilton, .1. Garnett, C. Hunter, S. S. Ivimey, A. B. Jamieson, J. P. Moroney, J. M'Muhon, R. P. Ormiston, VV. T. Steeds, VV. Downio Stewart, M.P. Councillor J. S. Sinclair had left for London, where he would enlist; while two members were now awaiting th'ir turn to bo called, making a total of 24 members who had so far been accepted. Iho members who joined the various reinforcements during last season were supplied with useful gifts from the club, Hie club had provided programmes for the welcomes to troops who returned by the Willochra and other troopships, also at farewells to troops. A series of concerts had been given at tho Dunedin Hospital to returned wounded soldiers, which had been greatly appreciated. Tho Chairman", in moving tho adoption of tho report and balance sheet, referred to the number of members who had volunteered for active scrvice. lie said that, considering their roll number, the response had been very good indeed. By reason of this their ranks had been depleted, and it was for the meml>ers to use every effort to secure new performing members. He was glad to see Bro. Ormiston back again—(applause),—and he trusted that he would soon be able again to take an active interest in tho club. —(Applause.) The chairman paid a tribute to the good work done by the stewards during tho year. Tho balance sheet .showed the receipts to bo £175 Is lid, but this included tho balance of £12 14s lid brought forward from the previous year, and the expenditure totalled £16 > 4s 3d, so that in reality'they had sustained a loss of £5 17s 9d on the year. Bio Osborn seconded the motion, which v\[as adopted without discussion. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Bro.'G. W. M'lntosh (reelected) ; vice-presidents—Bros. 0. Bilk. J. A. Ilaggitt, S. H. Osborn, S. Solomon, K.C., and T. P. Williamson ; comin.itee— Bros. R. Bryant, T. W. Dobbic, J. B. M'Conncll, R. B. Reynolds, T. R. Ritchie. A. Sligo, W. R. Waters; hon. secretary and treasurer, Bro. R. C. T. Evans (reelected) ; hon. auditors—Bros. G. M. MacLean and F. B. Roach. A motion to amend the rules to make it necessary for any member aspiring to tho office of vice-president to be a member of the committee for 12 months was defeated.
