KURIWAO COLLIE CLUB TRIALS.

—" '». SIXTH ANNUAL GATHERING. GOOD WORK EXHIBITED. Tlie sixth annual trials under the auspices of tho Kuriwao Collie Club was held on Mr Walker's property on Wednesday and Thursday, April 5 and 6. Tho weather was fine on the first day, but the afternoon on tho second day was wet. Owing to tho largo number of entries, it was necessary to hold two days' trials, so a consolation event was held on tho afternoon of the second day. There was a good attendance, yicluding a 5 large number of the fair sex. The catering, was in tho hands of Mrs Harris, who carried out tho work entrusted to her in good style, and the club netted a profit of £2. Mr Walker's 6heep were used for the trials, and they proved eminently suitable for tho occasion. Mr W. Dalgliesh, as judge, gave entiro satisfaction with his decisions. ■ Keen interest was taken through out owing to the club's 1916 surplus funds being donated to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. Tlio donation of a fat sheep by Messrs J. Livingstone and Sons, was won by Messrs R. Fraser and A. Ritchie, 1471b (actual weight, 1461b live weight). Mr Fraser donated his half of the sheep to the club. In tho evening of the first day a dance was held in tho schoolroom, there being a good attendance. Mr C. Ellis gave a recitation, Mr Murphy step dances, and Mr Livingstone a song. The ladies supplied refreshments. Opportunity was taken during tho evening by the Kuriwao Patriotic Social Club to present Trooper PI. Ridder with a case of razors. Mr T. Livingstone, in asking Trooper Ridder to accept' tho present, made some feeling remarks regarding Trooper Ridder's career as a soldier at Gallipoli, where he was severely wounded: Trooper Ridder thanked tho people of Kuriwao for the valuable present and kind remarks. Ho said "he did no more than ho felt was his duty to do," and ho thought every young man should enlist. ' Competitors were present from Waikaia, Waikaka, Waipahi, Warepa, Taumata, Loehindorb, Otaraia, Kaiwera, and surrounding districts. Mr Jas. Begg's special prize of £1, given to the dog that mado tho fastest head in tho long pull, was won by Mr H. Rogerson's Sharp, who headed in lmin 55seo. Mr W. Ward's special prize of a box of tea for th 6 dog with most points for command in the Huntaway event, .was won by Mr W. Aitkon's Bob. Mr Aitken handed the tea back, to bo sold on the ground for tho good of tho club,and it was sold 16 times, realising £5 lis. Mr E. Watt won Mr Garden's special prize of a hat given for the youngest competitor in tlie maiden event. Following are tho results of the trials :— MAIDEN EVENT, open to dogs that have not won any prize money; distance, about 400 yards; time, lOmin; total points, 32. Fourteen entries.—J. S. Waddell's Hemp, 23 points, 1; ,E. .Watt's Toss, 22 points, 2; F. Ridder's Don, 21 points, 3. HUNTAWAY EVENT: Time, lOmin; total points, 28. Ten entries.—W. Aitken's Bob, 25 points, 1; D. Taylor's Help, 11 points, 2; W. Taylor's Toss, 10 points, 3. ALL-COMERS' LONG PULL: Distance, 700 yards; time, 12min. Thirty-one entries. —W. Aitken's Maid, 26 points, 1; J. Robertson's Growl. 24 points, 2; J. S. Waddell's Boyne, 23 points. 3. CONSOLATION SWEEPSTAKE: Driving through set_ of flags, through Victoria Cross, and yarding; total points, 32. Fifteen entries. —J. Jones's Tweed, 22 points. 1; C. M'Kenzie's Chance, 16 points, 2;~F. Ridder's Brown, 15 points, 3.
