CAVERSHAM METHODIST CHURCH.

A welcome social was tendered to the Rev. A. Allen on Tuesday evening in tho Sunday School Hall. A largo number of the congregation welcomed their minister-elect. Mr Allen comes to Caversham from Waikouaiti -with the highest credentials for tho spiritual welfare of tho church and for a keen interest in all that pertains to the youth of the church. The following expressed a welcome on behalf of tho various organisations of tho church:—Mr White (trustees), Mr Carpenter (the youns people), Mr Ounliffo (quarter board), Mr Nixon (Sunday school), Mr M'Ahan (Abbotsford Church), and Mrs Paine (on behalf of tho lathes of. the congregation). The Rev. S. Griffith (chairman of tho district) extended a hearty welcome to Mr Allen on behalf of the sister churches and from the Methodist ministers in Dunedin, and desired for him a very prosperous and happy time. He complimented the members of the congregation in securing tho services of such an able minister. While refreshments wero being handed round Mr and Mrs Allen were introduced to the members and friends present. Mr Allen returned thanks for the kind ■words' of welcome, and trusted he would be able to fulfil his work to the satisfaction of all. During the ovening tho choir rendered several anthems, and Mrs MacFadyen and Mr Carpenter contributed vocal _ solos, Miss J. Tuck playing the accompaniments.
