THE HEMP INDUSTRY.
MILLS TO BE CLOSED. (Per UNTTnn Pumas Association.) # PALMER STON N.. April 13. A meeting of the Flnxmillers' Association was held to-day to consVlcr the position in recnrd to the shortage of tonnage. Tho president (Mr C. C. Higginson) 6aid thr- outlook was bad and. the tonnage available altogether inadequate to carry tho dominion's produce as \vell_ as flax. To go on producing: under tho circumstances was only inviting trouble for the flnx trade as tho stores were already over-full, and exporters could not bo expected to go on buyinjr flax which they couldi neither store nor ship. The matter was vital to the dominion, and tbn Government ought to take steps to provide additional tonnage. The millers discussed the position thoroughly, but realised that they were "up against it." and that nothing but the quick appearance of ships could save the situation. Finally it was resn'vd that the millers should cease railing at Easter, and that they should close down for a month and meet again in May to roview the situation. (
