RUSSIAN SUBMARINE'S SUCCESS. PETROGRAD, April 7. A communique states that an aviator brought down a German dirigible southwards of Dvinsk, and that a Russian submarine in the Black Sea. sank a steamer and seven coal-laden sailers. A battleship bombarded the Breslau, which fled.
EFFECTS OF THE THAW
GERMANS SUFFER GREATLY. PETROGRAD, April 8. (Received April 9, at 5.5 p.m.) The Novoe Vremya states that the thaw has flooded a wide expanse occupied by the Germans on the Baltic front, and scores have been drowned. Batches of men who crawled out o! the trenches 1o escape water were forced back by bullets and perished in the icy waters. The Russian artillery in one district wrought, great havoc, the enemy retreating waist-deep in watat.
