A cable message _ announces that Mr Ashmcad .Bartlett sailed for New Zealand on Thursday. , The Hon. William Earnsh aw has received a cable from his son, Mr'-William Ernshaw, engineering instructor of the, Wellington Technical College, stating that_ he has boon appointed engineer-lieutenant in the Royal Navy. Mr Earnsh aw left Wellington as an engineer on the Corinthic on January 27. Sir Louis Whitcombe, a director of Whitcombe and Tombs (Ltd.), arrived in Dunedin from Wellington by the eocprcss on Saturday. A Press Association message .from Hofcitika reports the death of Mr William Ford, captain of the Ross Fire Brigade, at the age of 43 years. He was presented -with a gold star for 25 years' service at the last association conference there. Captain Sltenhouse, of the Aurora, and five of his officers have accepted the Dunedin Choral Society's invitation to be present at their performance of El gar's "King Olaf" a£ His Majesty's Theatre to-morrow evening. The Rev. A. C. H. Button, who has been acting-vicar of Lawrence during tho absence in England of tho Yen. Archdeacon Richards (now vicar of St; John's, Invercargill), has been appointed to tho chargo of the Waimea Plains (Lumsden) • parish. Tho Rev. Button was at one time curate to the Rev. H. Packe in the parish of Wakatipu. Writing from Suva to one of liis priests in Auckland, the' Right Rev. The last operation was a great success, and I have every reason to. bless my surgeon for the amount of daily suffering which he has saved me. Richdale. who has severed her connection with tho firm after seven years' service as typiste, with a purse of sovereigns as a token of esteem. Born at Wamphray, Dumfries-shire, Scotland, 72 years ago, after an excellent university education at Edinburgh, he left his native! land and arrivod at Auckland in -1865.
