' ' Tho Arawa completed her loading late last evening, and will leave early this morning for Timaru. 0 . 'Hie Defence authorities are now engaged • upon the task of dismantling the troopship ■ Warrimoo, which is to be handed back to ... ' the Union Company as soon as she is reconditioned. . She 'will leave again on Tuesday for Auckland, via East Coast ports. - Mr G. H. Scales, of ,G. H. Scales (Ltd.), ; ..Wellington, has informed a northern exchange that his company has purchased from Captain Ross the well-known barquentine ' Ysabel, 148 tons gross and net, which, as ■ the Southern Cross HI, made many voyages to the Melanesian Islands, and later, under --.7 her present name, to the Friendly Islands. :> Sho was built at Devonport in 1873 by Mr T.. Niccol, arid in her day was a remarkably fast sailer. The Ysabel is at present at Auckland. Her future movements are not disclosed in the meanwhile. The fact that the British shipbuilding yards are now able to push on with constructional work is likely to give pleasure to the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Lone, besides many other shipowners. Long before the war the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company ordered four modern cargo-carriers, each of about 11,500 tons register, and when the outbreak occurred work on them was I':, well in hand. Then it had to bo aban- • . doned in consequence of Government work, and until quite recently nothiilg further was •done-with them. Now news has come to 'hand that tho four will bo ready at no distant date. Tho names of the vessels are Matakana, 12.000 tons; Mahia, 11,500 tons; Mahuna, 11,500 tons; and- Raranga, 11,500 tone. Tho quartette are to ,bo twin-screw, and have large refrigerator capacity. The Union Company's steamer Waima-r-ino, which arrived at Auckland on Sunday from Vancouver, San Francisco, and Suva, had an uneventful passage from Vancouver .. . 'to Suva, but three days after leaving the latter port the vessel ran into a moderate gale, with heavy seas. During the height of the storm tho steam steering gear carried away, and 1 the hand gear had to be utilised. By making use of stanchions previously used when the vessel carried cattle, possible to rig a temporary attachment wjiereby the steam steering gear could again be brought into use. No further damage was done, and the vessel pro- . ceeded on iher way. The gale lasted practically until Auckland was reached. On discharge of a large cargo the Waimarino, previously known as the Wyandotte, sailed : for Sydney. ,
