Lieutenant Kay Strang, who has been mentioned in Sir lan Hamilton s despatches, is a son o£ Mr John Strang, a well-known settler oE Glenside, Wairarapa. _ " This firm does not employ single men eligible for service who hare not registered " is the wording of a placard now appearing in some of the Wellington business establishments. _ 4 At the meeting of the Wanganui Painters and Decorators' Union the other day, a resolution was passed (says the Herald) n support of conscription, and regret was expressed at some of the trades' unions m opposing conscription. Captain E. J. Deck, N.Z.M.C., who some timo ago offered his services to the military authorities (says the Waipawa correspondent of the Hawke's Bay Herald), has received a communication from General Henderson, which suggests that there is no immediate ehortage of medical officers. The staff of the hospital ship Maheno is to be transferred to the Marama.
