HOLMES FKATIIERS. Tho Holmes Foath.-rsj match, W&kari v. Port Chalmers, was played last ovoning on tho Dunodin Green, with tho following result : — „ W. PK. T. Wood, W. Pettitt, S. Roberta,, J. Gebbio (s) 27 — A. Saruson, A. Peters, C. Scott, \V. Morgan (s) ... — 11 ROSLYN CLUB. MR FOUNTAIN HONOURED. Last ovoning a -very pleasant and enjoyable social was held in tho clubhouse in honour of Mr K 11. Fountain, who distinguished himself at Christ/church by winning tho Singles Championship. Mr TV Howard (president) was in the chair, and eongratU/latod Mr Fountain tuiori his meritorious win, and referred to the honour brought to the Roslyn Club. Mr Fountain, in replying to tho toast of his health, said that he felt oonlident ho could win, as he had undergone a special course of training. Ho stood a good chance of winning tho rinks, also, but for tho foot that section tics wore included in tho I'mals, these sretion ties counting as section wins. Several toasts were proposod and duly honoured. Mr Glover (chairman of tho oentre), Mr Munn (of Caulfield, Melbourne), and Mr Kennedy (of Oamaru) replied for tho visitors. A pleasing feature was tho toast to one of tho members (Mr Gordon Scott), who has been aooopted for active service. Mr Cordon Scott is tho youngest son of Mr D. Scott, founder of the club. A point worthy of more than passing notice was made by Mr Todd, who said that, in Scotland, the third player in a rink remains with his skip until the lead and second have delivered their bowls. Ho has then a better opportunity of watching the forming of the head himself than ho has in his present position.
