CAPTURE OF CETTINJE. AUSTRIA PROPOSES TO MAKE TERMS. LONDON, January 14. An Austrian official message states that Cettinje has fallen. 1 AMSTERDAM, January 14. The Times, in a leader, says : " The fall of Mount Lovtchen places Montenegro at the mercy of the enemy, and her independent existence is imperilled for the first time in her heroic history. It is not known whether King Nicholas will continue the unequal struggle or make terms. The latter alternative is quite possible. The failure of allied operations in the Adriatic was due to the tardy allied comprehension of the strategic importance of the Balkans. It is a wonder that Italy allowed the important Mount Lovtchen position to be lost without making an effort to support Montenegro. Nevertheless, this misfortune is not an occasion for recrimination; it s"hould rather spur the Allies on to speedily redress it.'' THE ITALIAN VERSION. AUSTRIA'S BID FOR LOVTCHEN. ROME, January 15. (Received Jan. 16, at_s.s p.m.) The overwhelming of Montenegro has apparently come as a surprise to the Italian public. Though no explanation is offered as to why Italy did not lift a hand to save Mount Lovtchen, it is understood that Austria recently offered to give Scutari to Montenegro if Montenegro would give up Mount Lovtchen. ITALIAN HELP PROBABLE. FOR MONTENEGRO AND SERBIA. PARIS, January 15. (Received 1 Jan. 16, at 5.5 p.m.) The Rome correspondent of the Petit Journal states that the King of Italy has returned suddenly in order to confer with Signor Danielo with a view to Italy aiding Montenegro and Serbia.
