METHODIST CHURCH.
QUARTERLY MEETINGS. The quarterly meeting of the Mornington Methodist Church was hold on Wednesday. Thors was a. good attendance. After keen competition Messrs Skene and Frapwell ■were re-elected to the position of circuit stewards. The finance of the church was stated to be in a very healthy condition, there being a gain of £10 19a 7d over the previous quarter. It was also stated that during the quarter £17 5s lOd was paid to home minions. The Sunday school was reported to be continuing to make very satisfactory progress, and everything pointed to 1916 being a very suoccssful year. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the auditors for past services. The officers' quarterly meeting of the Central Mission was largely attended. The Rev. C. Eaton presided. A cordial welcomes was given' to several new members present, including Sister Jean (Miss Boot), Mrs Webster, and Mrs Davis. An increase in membership was reported. The financial report was very satisfactory, giving the quarter's receipts at £164. The expenditure was £147, leaving a credit balance of £17. A grant of the amount of rates on the parsonage was made to the trustees. Satisfaction was expressed at the large congregations now attending and the increased liberality of the people. Sympathy was extended to Mr T. Moore on the loss of Jxis wife. Sister Jean was heartily thanked for donations of calendars, advertising boards, and other useful articles f onerously given bv her during the quarter, t was decided that next Sunday, being the special day cm the occasion of the visit of Mr and Mrs Ernest Firth from Christchnrch, bo devoted to trust funds. The foreign mission returns (£24) .and the home mission returns (£2l) both showed an advance on last year. The new scheme inaugurated on behalf of the building fund, a penny per day, was reported to be meeting with favour, a large numher having already beoomo subscribers. A donation was made to the funds of the Council of Churches. Messrs D. 0. Cameron, jun., and W. Aitken were re-cJected circuit stewards. Mr lxeith Proctor was elected delegate to Auckland Conference, and Mr Claude Primmer substitute. It was reported that tho Otago Synod had accepted the Mission invitation to hold the 1916 Synod in tho Octagon Hall. A hearty welcome had been given to Sergeant James Adam on his return on the Malieno. The meeting unanimously disapproved of the Conference* Committee recommendation to elected united committees to have charge of city missions, in so far as the recommendation applied to Dnncdin. Mr W. Hoskins was complimented on his 21 yeors' service as society steward. The superintendent (tho Rev. C. Enton) was urged to attend the conference if his duties permitted. Many testimonies were civen of the helpful influence of the Mifsion upoi tho life of the community.
