The well-known 'chaser Bribery, one of the beet horses of his day in Australia, wu recently destroyed. The hurdler Kilmeny is again in work at Riccarton. There is a possibility of Our Thorpe and Country Belle being matched over two miles. The owner of the former is propared to back his horse for a stake of £1000. Should the match come off, the gate money will probably go towards the patriotic funds. Mr W. G. Stead, whose colours were successful at the Auckland Cud meeting, has made a donation of £1000 to the patriotio funds. The Waimate Racing: Clnb decided at a special meeting of the members that the annual race meeting will be held as nsoal, and the profits donated to the Bed Cross Fund. Kelly M ait land was retired from the position of handicapper they would not operate at the meeting. The veteran handicapper, after a lot of argument, eventually resigned, bo the. threatened strike was averted. <Mr Maitland subsequently resigned his position > as handicapper to several other clubs.
