MENT. BESIGNATIONS WITHDRAWN. LONDON, January 12. Messrs Henderson, Brace, and Roberts, Labour members in the National Government, have writhdrawn their resignations. SOUTH WALES MINERS. THE MEASURE OPPOSED. LONDON, January 12. The South Wales Miners' Conference, by 211 votes to 35, denounced the Compulsion Bill. LEGISLATORS NOT EXEMPT. LONDON, January 12. In the House of Commons, Mr Asquith, in reply to a question, said that members of the House of Lords and' the House of Commons of military age could not claim exemption from the operations of the Compulsion Bill. GERMAN OPINION. MILITARY CRITIC'S WARNING. (Times and Sydney Sun Services.) LONDON, January 12. The Socialist Herr Gatike, a great military critic, writes in Vorwarts warning the German people not to heed the press assertions that the British compulsion movement is intended to bluff her allies. "There is," he says, "the surest proof to the contrary. Mr Lloyd George has staked has whole political future on the great popularity of compulsion. The British are determined to fight to the bitter end." Discussing military objections to shortofficered new troops, Herr Gaike asks : "Where were the preliminary formations iii the Australasian - Canadian levies ? Within limitations the masses were ■weapons of good, substantial quality. The Australasians, who made such a poor appearance in Egypt, though unable to storm strong Turkish positions on Gallipoli, did duty for months in maintaining themselves suspended between rocks and water.''
