(Received Jan. 13, at 0.40 a.m.) The Daily Mail's commissioner who visited Scandinavia declares that German traders consider the British blockade the best joke of the war. A vast amount of Scandinavian imports goes to Germany, merely changing labels, and trains and steamers are taxed to the utmost. He saw many ivessels examined elsewhere tranship at Malmo, Ealsingborg, and Copenhagen direct. In the traffic for Germany tho glut is tremendous. Danish traders complain that they cannot handle their own cargoes, owing to the pressure of Germanbound goods. Tho commissioner investigated the working of the system of consigning to accredited merchants. He declares that it is useless, and is making Britain the laugh-ing-stock of importers. Many of them are honeot, but the goods reach even fifth parties, who sell to Germany. Everyone trades on these lines—porters, shopkeepers, caretakers, and shopgirls.
