TROOPER LORY
Cable advice has been received of the death of Trooper Herbert William Lory, son of Mr Herbert Lory, of Livingstone, and brother of Miss Lory, of Oamaru (says the Mail). Trooper Lory, who was 19 years of ago an the time, volunteered for active service four days after war was declared and left New Zealand with the Main Expeditionary Force. He was employed as a shepherd, and at the time of the call for recruite had just returned from mustering. Spending only about an hour at his home, ho rode into town at night and at once enlisted. He _ took part in the main landing at Gallipoli, was attached for somo time to General Hamilton's bodyguard, and wa6 wounded for the first time in the back. After being in hospital • for some time Trooper Lory returned to the trenches and continued in action till Deoember 4, when he received wounds from which he died tie following day. Deceased was born and educated in Livingstone.
