Advice received from Australia indicates - that the C. and D. liner Indrabarah is now definitely fixed to load in New Zealand for London, about the end of December. The vessel is bound from London with cargo for Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney. Information has been received by the Wellington agents of the Federal and Shire Line stating that tho new Bteamer Devon will leave Liverpool for Australian ports on December 24. She i 9 one of four new vesscLs ordered nearly two years ago. These ships have been' specially designed to meet tho requirements of the United Kingdom-Australian-New Zealand tradcx They are ' essentially cargo-carriers, there being extensive refrigerator space. However, the engines provide for a high rate of speed. The thiull was being constructed at Dunkirk when that port was bombarded, and the work had to be completed in London. The Melbourne Steamship Company's old steamer Brisbane, which was a regular _ trader between Newcastle and Lyttelton for " many years, and occasionally visited Wellington, and which was recently sold to Eastern buyers, is having a run of bad luck. The vessel loaded a cargo at Hongkong, and after discharging at Singapore sailed again for Hongkong. When • 12 hours out she collided -with the steamer Vivat. bound from Hongkong to Singapore. The Vivat was so badly damaged that she foundered, but the Brisbane was more fortunate. Her bows were "stove in," other- ' wise the vessel escaped damage. The Brisbane's ctourse was then altered, and she eventually reached Singapore, where she is . being repaired.
