SCHOOL COMMITTEES' ASSOCIATION.

An executive meeting was held In the Education Board Room on Thursday, -when the following members "were present:—Mr W.. Mowat (president), Rev. \V. M. Grant, and Messrs T. H. Dalton, G. Johnson, W. R.» Brugh, J. H. Wilkinson, and M. Fraer (hbn. secretary). Messrs Mowat, Brugh, and Wilkinson were appointed a committee to report to the association regarding the emblematical certificates relative to the war to take the place of the usual attendance certificates for the various schools. The quarterly report to be presented to the association was - considered and approved of. ■The report set forth thai the remit from , the Forbury S.chool committee, adopted by the association at the last meeting, recommending a stricter censorship in connection ■with moving picture films, had "been followed by various organisations passing resolutions on the-same lines, and communications had been sent to the Government on the matter. With reference to the association's own letters, the Prime Minister replied : —" I have to inform you that I have noted the representations contained in the resolution, and shaU be glad to bring the matter before the Minister in charge of the Police Department for his .consideration." The Hon. A. L. Herdman (Attorney-gen-eral) notifies that this has been done, and' that th,e matter will have his best and seri- , ous consideration. The secretary of the Education Board, in acknowledging the communication sent to that body in ' connection therewith, says: "The board at its last meeting unanimously decided to support the resolution of the association, and a letter to that effect has been sent, to the Minister of Education." From the general support accorded in this matter we are justified in anticipating that an amelioration, in connection with tno harmful character ' of many of the pictures will eventuate. Since our last quarterly meeting two of our esteemed members have passed away—vifc., Mr 0. Chadwick, who represented the George Street School Committee for seve.al years, and who was a very live delegate; and Mr T. Cole, ex-city Mayor, who represented the Kensington School 1 ' Committee, and -who, from his past public experience, should have a very useful member. A resolution expressing our regret at their loss and also sympathy witi the respective families be placed on record_ will be proposed at the quarterly meeting. A communication early in October from Mr C. H. Barratt (secretary of the Mount Cook School Committee at Wellington) sent to Mr S. Park (secretary of the Education Board), 1 stating that a, schools' committees' association in Wellington waa contemplated, was passed on to Mr M. fraer, who at once forwarded a copy of oar rules, reports, and other information in connection with, our association. The following remits wrll bo placed before yon few consideration :—Concord School Committee.—" That an effort be made in the direction of having an alteration effected in the method of voting for school committees whereby those entitled to vote should leecve uncancelled the number of names corresponding with those required for the committee, otherwise the papers to be treated as informal." Ravensbourne School Committee.—" That the supplies- of stationery, etc., for th'o schools at present obtained by head masters at their discretion and debited to the oommittees should be obtained by fcdad masters through the Education Board."
