The Wanaka will leave Timaru on Monday evening for Oamaru, Blulf, Napier, Gisborne, and Auckland.' Mr James Jack, who lhaa been acting secretary • of the Auckland local Federated Seamen's Uirion of New Zealand during the past year, has now followed in the footsteps of his predecessor, Mr R. Gordon, ' and has enlisted with the artillery section of the_ reinforoements. Having been detained at northern port 3 owing to heavy rain, lie Paloona did not reach Dunedin until yesterday forenoon. Her departure has been correspondingly delayed, and she will not Jeave until this afternoon for Auckland, via East Coast ports. It is reported that the liner Pakeha, which was to have left Liverpool on the 6th inst., is coming direct to New Zealand, and will not call at Australian ports as previously announced. She should arrive at Auckland about the end of December, and iher other ports of call will bo Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. A cable received in Sydney from London states that the wool trade is now considering the question of the tonnage available fdr the new season's Australian and Now Zealand clips. It is believed that there will be a full supply of tonnage available at the beginning of the season, though there may be some shortage later on as regards Australia, owing to the wheat demands. _ Captain Clifford is still in command of the Ruapehu, and has the following officers associated with him:—Chief, Mr R.
