MORNINGTON BAPTIST CHURCH.
OAKE FAIR AND SALE OF WORK. Yesterday afternoon a cake fair and sale of work organised by the ladies of the Mornington Baptist congregation was formally opened, by the Mayor of Mornington (Mr E. Sincock)). A large and very attractive display was arranged in the school hall, which was prettily and suitably decorated. The object of the effort is to wipe off the remaining debt incurred through the addition of a large piece to the hall, which has largely increased its practical usefulness. The Mayor, in declaring tho sale open, congratulated tu» ladies on the large amount of excellent work they had brought together. It was a great credit both to the older and the younger ones who were responsible. He was not one who thought that sales of work were wrong, and he hoped that at the conclusion they would find that they had not only wiped off the whole of the debt, but that they had a surplus in hand for further work.
In spite of the weather there was a good attendance of ladies at the opening , , and business promised well. In the evening "the Mornington School Drum and Fife Band supplied, musio that was much appreciated. The fair will be open again this afternoon and evening.
