LAWN TENNIS

TOURNAMENT AT ANDERSON BAY S It was a somewhat heated group of , playere who took part in a lawn tennis tournament at the Anderson Bay Courts oa Saturday afternooni The factors contributing to this state of affairs wero the warmth of the weather and a more or less general lack of form, which prevented play from rising to a very high standard, though some of tne games were by no means unattractive. Double events only were played, and, as the games consisted of 30 points up, there was a general tendency to hit out fairly freely. Some good games were witnessed in tne Ladies' Doubles, and the win of Misses Black and Chisholm was very popular. Misses Farra and Sparrow (runners-up) also played well, and some good form was shown by Misses White and Duthio, who carried a handicap of owe 12 into the semi-finals. Among the men S. N. Brown provided about the only 'bright spot, his game being sound at all points, and his volleying especially goo'd. Brown and Cramond well deserved their win in the Men's Doubles— especially in view of their severe handicap of owe 8. Oxford and J. S. Nicolson also put up some good games, and a pair of young players, N. Gale and W. Thomas, are to be congratulated on reaching the final. The Combined Doubles were won by Thomas and Miss Black, who had some very creditable wins, their opponents in the final—Manson and Miss Smith—being the only players to score 20 games against them. The tournament was run on behalf of the local association, and its funds should benefit to the extent of close on £10. The following are the results of the afternoon's play: MEN'S DOUBLES.
