DEATH OF WM. JEFFREY

INQUEST ADJOURNED. An inquest was opened' at the Morgue yesterday afternoon touching the death of William Jeffrey, who was found dead in Jubilee Park on Thursday afternoon, with a bullet wound in his head. Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M. (coroner) presided, and Senior-sergeant Dart conductcd the case for the police. James Coulter, bootmaker, residing in Black's road. North-East Valley, said that tho deceased was his nephew. He was a married man, and lived with his wife and two infant children at Nairn street, Roslyn. He was 39 years of age. During the last 12 months he had suffered from severe pains in the head, resulting from an attack of influenza. Witness believed that he was depressed in spirits, but was not aware of anything else that could hc.v<» worried him. I-Ie was a plasterer by trade, and always seemed to have plenty of work. Senior-sergeant Dart asked for an adjournment at this stage. The deceased, he said, disappeared from his home on November 2, and there was no tracc of him since November 3. It would be necessary to call his wife, and also to endeavour to find out what ho had been doing in the meantime. The appearance of the body that he had not been dead since November 3. It would also be necessary to find where ho had obtained tho revolver.

The inquest was adjourned accordingly till Thursday next, at the Law Courts at 2 p.m.
