It is reported that Mr Alfred Dillon, exM.P. for Hawke's Bay, is dangerously ill at Otane. his copdition causing some anxiety. Mr T. Gerraid, a native of Southland, and a specialist in breeding shorthorn cattle, died at tho Waikato Ho&pital last week at the age of 52 years. Mr Rose, Collector of Customs at Timaru (formerly of Oamaru), who had received word' of his promotion to Invercargill (says the Herald), has since been offered, and has accepted, a. similar position at Napier. A Brisbane cablegram states that two New Zealandersi—Messrs H. H. A. Curtis and B. S. Marshall—have been appointed superintendent and shift engineer respectively in tho Government Hvdro-electrio Department. Tho North Otago Times states that tht Rev. Father Farthing, assistant to Monsignor Mackay, has ■ decided to sever his temporary connection with the diocese of Dunedin. Father Farthing's host of friends will learn of his decision with extreme regret, as the rev. gentleman is highly esteemed by a wide circle of the Catholic and non-Catholic residents of North Otago, among whom, for the past seven years, he has faithfully and zealously laboured. During his stay in Oamaru he has token a prominent part in the musical and social life of tho community Fatlier Farthing, who will leave Oamaru in about three weeks' time, purposes first proceeding to Sydney to visit his fatlier, who of late has been in failing health.
