[Mr Edgar Smith Willard, who was in his sixty-third year, made his first appearance on the , stage at the age of nearly if, when he took a very minor part. After a varied experience for four years as a stock actor, he appeared in London. Another five years' provincial experience enabled him to appear in numerous star parts. During an engagement of a similar length under Mr Wilson Barrett, he appeared in several important roles, and achieved considerable success. Hβ assumed a number of different characters in several American seasons, and was as popular in the chief cities of the United States as in London.]
