HOSPITAL SATURDAY ASSOCIATION.

A CHANGE OF NAME. SUGGESTED. The relationship between the Hospital Saturday Association and the Otago Hospital and Charitable Aid Board as to the latter's participation in the collections made by tho former was tho subject of comment at last night's meeting of the board. Mr Knight introduced the matter by reading a resume of what had occurred in the past. After referring to the decision of the association to vote £100 (out of money in hand) to the Dunedin Hospital this year, Mr Knight proceeded: In section 14 of the original articles of association of the society, it is provided that the moneys collected shall be divided in the following proportions—namely, not lees than one-half to the Dunedin Hospital and the remainder to be allotted by the committee to the kindred societies mentioned in rule 2 of the articles of association. In October, 1911, the articles were amended in order to read ae follow: —"Afterthe payment of all expenses in connection with the annual collection and other expenses incurred by the association incidental to its objects, the moneys collected shall be allotted by the committee in equitable proportions to the Dunedin Hospital and kindred societies mentioned in rule 2." The following are the amounts received from the Hospital Saturday Association since its inception, and opposite to each amount is set out the proportjgn given to the Hospital in ratio to the total collection, and this year it is proposed further to reduce the amount by giving a very small moiety indeed:—l9o7-7, £553 (half); 1907-8, £430 (half); 1908-9, £575 (half); 1909-10, £537 (half); 1910-11, £525 (half); 1911-12, £300 (one-third); 1912-13, £406 (half; included is £34, Port Chalmers); 1913-14, £350 (52 per cent.; included is £28 6s Id Port Chalmers and £40 Owaka): 1914-15, £345 (quarter);— total, £4131. The resume prepared concluded: I would now respectfully suggest that this board withdraw as one of the beneficaries of the society, and that the association be requested to change its name, thus eliminating all reference to the Hospital, and would euggeet that a resolution in the .following terms be passed, which I now move. , —"That in view of the action of the Hospital Association of Otago at its annual meeting, held on October 28, as reported in the daily press, apportioning the forthcoming collection, whereby upon the baeis of a £1000 collection, the sum of £100 (out of money in hand) is to be granted to the Dunedin Hospital, and if there should be any surplus over £1000, a further £100 will bo donated to the Dunedin Hospital, the Otago Hospital and Charitable Aid Board hereby notifies the association that jt desires to withdraw as one of the beneficiaries referred to in the eociety's articles of association, and respectfully suggests to the Hospital Saturday Association of Otago that the name thereof be changed so as to eliminate any reference to the Hospital." Mr Quelch seconded the motion.

The Chairman endorsed the remarks made. It'was desirable,-as suggested, that the col-

lection should be made* in another name, and that the Hospital should fall out of the list of beneficiariee. The association had done excellent work, and would no doubt continue "to do so. It was organised on admirable lines, but he thought the title of Hospital Saturday Association was absolutely a misnomer. He thought the proportion it was proposed to give the Hospital was hardly a fair one. The motion was carried without discussion or dissent.
