NEW CITY COUNCILLOR

MR C. J. THORN ELECTED. ' \ A poll to fill the seat on the City Couhcil, rendered vacant, by the death of Or T. Cole, who represented Cavereham Ward, was Z held yesterday, and resulted in the return, of Mr Charles John Thorn by a margin of 69 votes. The other candidate was Mr William Fleming. Apparently very little active interest was ■ < taken in the poll, for although the Caver- - sham roll contained about 7000 names, only 999 persons registered votes. There were. .' four booths —at the Oddfellows' Hall, Kensington: the Hotel Metropole, St. Clair; the Oddfelkrws' Hall, Cavereham; and the South Dunedin Town Hall. Most of the votes were registered after the close > of business hoars had liberated the majority of the work public. The votes' received' by the candidates were as follow: i , Mr Thorn 551 Mr Fleming .' 462 _ Six informal votes were recorded.
