Mrs H. 0. Debenham has been appointed sole teacher of tho Whare Flat School. Mr H. W. Kiernan, .for the, past four years postmaster at Balclutha, has received an appointment as postmaster at Apia, Samoa (the conquered German colony), and expects to leave Balclutha. in about five weeks' time (says the/ Free Prees). . The appointment is for the'duration of the war. Miss Boot, who recently arrived in Dunedin from the Old Country, and who has had considerable experience as a mission Worker amongst the poorer olasses in the big cities, has generously offered her services as honorary deaconess to the Central Mission here. The offer has been readily accepted by the mission officers, and Miss Boot was introduced to the congregation on Sunday evening. She will be known as Sister Jean. Miss Boot did splendid work amongst the soldiers at Home, and her services will no doubf bo availed of here. SHster Jean, or the Rev. C. Eaton, will be pleased to render help to any needy oases, as this part of tho mission work will be given more attention in future under the new sister's direction. On the occasion of the departure of Captain and Mrs M'Kemio for Dunedin, farewell meeting were held in the Salvation Army Hall, Lyttelton, on Sunday. .The meetings were largely attended, and) were enthusiastic throughout. At the evening service Mr M. J. Miller made reference to the sterling work of Captain and' Mrs M'Kenzie during , their two years' stay in Lyttelton. He referred particularly to their efforts amongst the young folk, and congratulated Captain and Mrs M'Kenzie on their new appointment, and wished them every success. Mr J. Pitcaithly, chief steward' of the Methodist Church, stated that the members of his congregation desired to pay a tribute to Captain and Mrs M'Kenzie's good work in the port. Their departure was to be regretted, as a good feeling of fellowship had always between the captain and members of other denominations. Captain M'Kenzie thanked the speakers for their kind references. Ho reviewed at length his work amongst the people of Lyttelton, stating that he felt gratified at tho results attained. The meeting olosed -with the singing of the hvmn "God Bo With You Till Wo.Meet Again."
