—It has been estimated that, for each .minute of time, the civilised nations of the world strike 3,000,000 matches. This is said to be the average for every minute of the 24 hours of the day. Fifteen hundred billion is the number for the entire year. — The' Isle of Dogs, a district of London, is- really only an island owing to a dock canal cutting it off from the neighbouring land. The name is supposed to have arisen fro'fn the fact that former Kings of England kept their hounds there.
