Like other foreign sailing vessels that visit New Zealand from, time to time, the Norwegian barque Sardhana, which recently discharged a cargo of guano from .Seychelles Island, at Lyttelton, and is now at anchor at Camp Bay, has, through desertion, suffered the loss of several seamen, who can always get higher wages on the New' Zealand coast (says the Christchurch Press). When she reached Port Chalmers Some weeks ago he carried a full complement of 16 men, but was'not long in port before one cleared out. Shortly afterwards two lads—neither of whom could speak a word of English—also walked- ashore, but were soon located by the police and placed back on board the ship. Up to Friday, when she waa removed to an anchorage at Camp Bay, the Sardhana had lost six men at' Lyttelton, and between 1 a.m. and 6 a»m. on Sunday the seventh got overboard with two lifebelts, but whether he manaaged to reaoh the shore of the Peninsula, about three-quarters of a mile distant, or was drowned in the attempt is not clear. Ho is a Norwegian named <Tonn, Knudson, and is 17 years of age. He made a previous attempt to escape. He was left ofa watch, and his disappearance was not noticed by the mate, Karl Johansen, for some time afterwards, It was then observed that two lifebelts were missing, and a wooden form was found hanging over the ship's side, showing the method that Knudsen had adopted' to enter the water. A boat was subsequently manned and a search made along the shore of the Peninsula as far as Diamond Harbour, but no trace of the missing 6oaman could be found. SLUGGISH LIVER. "For many years I have suffered from sluggish liver," writes Mrs W. Pfeiffer, Mount Pleasant, S.A. "I have tried several different things, but have found nothing equal to Chamberlain's Tablets, for they make me feel thoroughly well again. In my opinion there is no better medicine than Chamberlain's Tablets for disorders of the liver and stomach." Sold everywhere.
