SBTOND-LIEUTENANT, PETRE. . : Mr F. W. Fetre, of St. Clair, has received a cablegram from the/Secretary of the War Office, London, stating that his son, Secondlieutenant E. H. Potre, ,of the Suffolk Regiment, wa« wounded either on September 30 or October 1. No other particulars are ; given. Seoond-lieutenant Petre left, .Dunodin when he was 17< years of age and joined the Imperial Light Horse at Home. He served throughout the South African war, and afterwards joined thcCape Mounted 1 Rifles, with which he remained for' five years. Then he went to Canada, and/for., three years waa a. member of the' North.. West Mounted Police. On the outbreak of { the war he went over to London, .intending: > to nceept the first shilling ; a recruiting ser< gaaut offered. lie took the first ofTnr, and for 12 days was in tho Second Guards Blue. •• Then he was offered a commission with tho: Snffolk Regiment, and thia h» accented.
From No. 2 shoot, at 795 ft, No. 12 south drivo was started and advanced 34ft, the last 28ft showing 2ft 6in of pay wash. Below the back laths Nos. 15 and 11 north drives were advanced 13ft and ,14ft respectively, in fair grade , wash. . Blocking is proceeding off Nos. 7 and 9 north drives,"
