OUR SOLDIERS' QUEEN

On Saturday afternoon Mrs R. Hudson (Our Soldiers' Queen) gave an '" At Home" , at her residence, Royal terrace, to the ladies who had worked on her behalf during the recent carnival, 'ihe gathering was eminently successful, a most enjoyable afternoon being spent. During the afternoon Mrs Hudson made presentations to Miss M. Cook (chairwoman) and Miss lissie Marks (secretary), of the ladies' executive, and in doing so referred to the etwimg qualities and the excellent work these two ladies had accomplished. The balance sheet would show that with one or two exceptions the whole of the funds which had been liandcd over to the main executive of the Queen Carnival on behalf of Our, Soldiers' Queen had been the result of collections, raffles, concerts, etc. —a fact which spoke volumes for the workers. In reply on behalf of Misses Cook and Marks, Mr Percy James thanked Mrs Hudson ior Tier handsome presents, and commented on the vast amount of work which Mrs Hudson had done personally. Although she had not been successful in having the gold-and-red pennant at the top of the pole, she would have the satisfaction of knowing that ehe had been the means of placing the handsome sum of ±!&300 to the credit of the fund for our wounded soldiers. A programme of musical and elocutionary items was contributed by Mrs S. Wilson ("Still as the. Night ") { Miss Julie Jacobs (recitation, " Lady Clara V ere de Vere •,) Mrs R. Hudson ("The Jewel Song'/ ("Faust") and a delightful little eong episode ("Awake"). Mr-Percy James recounteu many of the humorous sides of tne carnival, whilst Miss Dora Hudson surprised those present with her rendering of two pretty little vocal numbers, . self-accom-panied. The Bristol Orchestra added further charm to an enjoyable afternoon.
