Unfortunately, at the last moment, some of the teams had great difficulty in getting their seven men, and had to be content with weak teams; consequently they had little chance of securing many honours. At the end of the fifth round three teanie (University, Gymnastic, and Union) were found to have scored equal points, and a fresh draw took place, University playing Union in the semi-final. This was a splendid game, each team striving to outdo the other. Eventually the former managed to snatch two goals, and then were able to hold Union in check, and thus secured a place in the final. In the final Gymnastic went on to the field feeling fresh after having enjoyed the bye, and soon had University defending. Fine play on the part of the Reds soon gave them a substantial lead, 4- goals being registered in quick time—three by Footo and one by M'Leod. University played hard to avoid defeat, but their opponents continued to hold the upper hand, and eventually ran out winners of the match, and winners of the tournament, their score in this match being 5 goals to 1. JUNIOR. As in the Senior Grade, this competition was conducted on the " Yankee " principle, each team meeting each other once. There were five teams entered, and after each had played the other it was found that three teams (St. Andrews, University, and Otago) were level with 5 pofrits each. The rosult of a freeh draw was that St. Andrews drew the bye, and University: and Otago played a semi-final. At the call of time no score was registered, so an extension of time was granted. Otago made good use of it, and scored a goal, thus finishing the match and giving them a chance ui tho final. The final between St. Andrews and Otago was keenly fought out in a. failing light. Otago were suffering somewhat from their previous match, arid had excellent, chancea m the oirole, but could" not make use of them. St. Andrews notched a goal and held the lead until call of time. This- (the final match) was tho only match in which the Otago boys were beaten, but St. Andrews, with a slightly better performance, came out as winners of the Junior Grade tournament, with Otago as runners-up. -" Tho following; officiated as referees throughout the afternoon: —Messrs Fogarty, J.
