WHEY BUTTER.

QUESTION OF A DISTINCTIVE ' BRAND. (From Oub Own Cobbespondent.) WELLINGTON, August 31. A question regarding the branding of whey butter was asked in the House of Representatives to-day by Mr Hornsby. He said that it had been stated that a new * brand would be insisted on for such butter, proclaiming that it was whey butter. A large number of factories were manufacturing such butter, and were turning out an excellent article. They would vbe greatly prejudiced if the mark was to go upon it that it was whey butter. Tho Minister of Agriculture (the Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald) said that there had been some negotiations in connection with the matter, and there was no question that when butter had been exported from New Zealand to the London market and it had not been satisfactory to the other' factory butter in this country it had prejudiced the sale of New Zealand butter to a eer tain extent. The matter was under consideration, but nothing definite had been done. They had under consideration the advisability of putting a definite brand upon whey butter. Mr Hornsby: Would you hear representatives from the factories before you reply definitely? Mr Mac Donald: We are very pleased to get any information at all.
