> The meeting of the Waikouaiti County Council, held yesterday, jvas attended by Crs M'Gill (chairman), Marshall/ Kilpatrick, Laiey, and Orbell. BIDING BEPORTS. ! The inspector submitted the following reports on work in the various ridings:— Hawksbury Riding.—'lheredecking of the Flag. Swamp : bridge is completed, and a portion of Wilson's road surfaced. , The culverts on the Main road 1 near the sanatorium and, on Nankiville's road have been re-covered. The formation contract'on the Quarry road is about finished. It' will , quire a 6in pipe culvert put through the old road at tne watering place.—Adopted; culvert to be put in the Quarry road. Merton Riding.—Two- portions of the Main road have been * raised with rotten' rock and clay, and the, metal is now being spread on the road. The. breaking of the metal of Wilson's contract is well advanced, and should be finishod during next month. With reference to the application of Mr Turner to have the Warrington roads repaired, there are eight chains on tho lower end of Hill road from junction of Bay road to Mr Adams's property thaUhaye not been metalied. To give it a coat of 10 yards to each chain will cost £28. -To blind- metal with clay and gravel wojjld cost about £1 per chain, ■ or a total of £36, _ The sharp bend above the Warrington station requires the culvert lengthened and the point taken off. —Adopted; metalling on Warrington road to be gono on with if those interested are prepared to bear half cost; the sharp bend above tho Warrington Railway Station to be attended to. Blucekin Riding.—The holes on the-main road from Mr Brisco's property and through the Murchison township have been repaired with gravel. The Cedar Creek road has been surfaced throughout, and a culvert recovered on Hay's road. A portion of tho Heyward's Point road has been ■ surfaced. The Purakanui road requires about >15 yards of maintenance metal, at an estimated cost of £6. —Adopted; necessary metal ,to. be put on Purakanui road. . - , North-East Valley Riding.—Two trucks of metal have been spread on the ,Main road and Hall road, Sawyers' Bay. All the stone on George street and the stone on Duke street has been broken. —Adopted.

The Public Works Department wrote withdrawing the votes of £37 for Wilson's road and £100 for the Flag Swamp road, as the council had done nothing in the matter. —The clerk explained that the department had not approved of the. specifications iho council had drawn up for these woiks.— The letters were received. The Rev. W. Gray Dixon wrote complaining of mischief which Mr Sim } of Warrington, was doing to a beautiful strip of bush between the road and Waitativßay. He was cutting down the best trees in the bush fringing the waters of the bay. If the council had any authority in the matter, he trusted it would be good enough to exercise it.—Councillors agreed that if permission had been granted to bush from its property that permission must be withdrawn—The - inspector was authorised to interview Mr Sim on the matter. Mr R. Malthus, Merton, and, fivo others mote drawing attention to the state of the road leading to their properties.—lnspector Two lettore were received from Mr R. W. Millar. Waitati, complaining of the bad state of the road leading up to Mr John Hill's property.—lnspector to report to next m Me 1 ssrs D. N. Fletcher and J. Knewstubb wrote with reference to the _ proposed amalgamation of Mansford with Port Uialmers, asking the council to pass a, motion favourable to the proposal.—The- Clerk reported that tho matter had already been attended to at the last, meeting. Mr P. C. Connolly, Port Chalmers, wrote complaining of the road at Pine Hill from Fox's corner to Sullivan s being badly cut up by carting.—lnspector to. report. ACCOUNTS PABBBD. Accounts amounting to £270 15s 2d were passed for* payment. ,
