Port Chalmers was won by the former by detank. AUIAMHHA V. L'NIVKKSITT. Soon after the start University was awarded a free Kick, anil Currie piloted the ball oyer the bar. Alharnbra |>layed with good dash ami combination, but University put up a strong resistance, nullifying their opponents' bt-.-t cll'orts. Towards the close of the spell the Colours were again pressing. From a serum Williams got possession, and after a dodgy run passed the ball to the left, but Black smartly intercepted, and made a fast run to the" quarter Hag in Alharnbra territory, where he passed nicely to BlundolL who ran behind the posts. Currie's kick raised the University score to 8 points.

in the second spell University at once assumed the offensive.- Blundell picked tin in loojc play, and his pace enabled him to successfully elude a couple of opponents. The kick failed. Alharnbra was temporarily in attack, but the Light Blues came again, and in some loose play near the side line BlumWl caught the" ball from a rebound and scored. He placed" a fine goal himself. Alharnbra rushed the ball along, and some hot work followed in the corner, ending in Sutherland scoring. Marston's kick failed. Colours kept the upper hand for tlie next 10 minutes. They repeatedly got the ball from the scrum, but lost good chances. Once M'Cormack dodged over the line, but no goal resulted. A free kick to Alharnbra raised their supporters' hopes, but the attempt at rroal failed. A few minutes later Harris made a strong run from halfway, and passing several opponents, got over the Alharnbra line. The final score was:

University 19 points. Alhambra 6 points. The University players wore a black band on the arm as a mark of respect for their late comrades, Sergeant Denniston. Lieut. Nisbct, and Sergeant Childs. Union v. Zixgari-Richmond. The Zingari-Uiehniond Club was not represented by 1 a full team,. but it put up a good fight. At the end of the first spell the odds wereagainst Union. The Zingari pack opened in promising style, and Davidson nearly scored. Shortly after, a bad mull by a Union back allowed Tillyshort to draw blood for the Colours, watson failed with the kick. Stung by the reverse Union livened up, but penalty kicks to them were of no avail. With Siymonds and Davidson in the van the Colours' pack at length relieved the pressure, and Watson made a dashing cut in. Whittaker, fakjng a pass in pretty style, scored a good try, which Cameron converted. The next minute Donaldson, from about halfway, landed a splendid penalty goal. 'j no Reds' were masters of the situation in the second half. Donaldson kicked another fine goal from a mark, and then for some time both teams exhibited spasmodic flashes of unfinished back play. Zingari were badly outclassed towards the conclusion of the game, Watson being the only man to show anything like a stand. A hard kick in front gave M'Arthnr, -who was unmarked, on Union's left, wing, an easy chance, and he promptly took it.. Donaldson's kick went wide. The game ended shortly afterwards. The scores were:

Union 9 points. Zingari-Riehmond ... 8 points. Mr B. Watson was referee. Southern v. Dunedin-.

Southern and Dunedin met at Ravensbourne. The meeting of thes? two teams in the first round provided a fairly close contest, and thc Blues again took the field in good heart, hoping, at least, to make matters lively for their opponents, fhey were, however, handicapped by two gaps in their ranks, and though, for a time, both backs and forwards withstood the Southern assault they were at last compelled to accept defeat. The Colours' forwards played remarkably well, and the backs, especially Eckhold. endeavoured to make play fast and open; but Reidv seemed to be the weak link. The Dunedin forwards played pluokily, and the backs had to perform miracles on defence. Fortune and Blackeley rendering thc most effective service in this direction. The first spell was fairly evenly contested, and Southern registered only 8 points, but in the later stages of the game thev had matters almost "all their own way. For the winning team tries were obtained by Douglas (3), Eckhold, Harley Reidy. MQuarrie, and Highlcy, while Eckhold kicked a penalty goal and converted one try. The final score, therefore was: '

Southern 29 points Dunedin Xil. Mr A. Wallace acted as referee. SECOND GRADE.
