SARBON LIBRARY

Ths sixth annual meeting was held on Saturday, a large number of members being present. _ 'iho annual report stated that tho membership, through various causes, showed a small • decrease, but the hopo was expressed that with tho assistanceof an additional factory a large increase would tako place during tho next few weeks. During tliis year 1500 magazines and about '/oil books had been issued. After paying all accounts thero was a credit balance of £2 6s. This was considered very satisfactory, considering that the committee was paying a little more for tho magazines owing to the \vur. The receipts also suffered to somo extent owing to the non-selling of any of tho old magazines and books. The committee decidcd somo time ago to send them all to the troops that left our shores to tako part in the great war. The president (Mr C. S. Sjiaul), in moving its adoption, referred to the useful work carried out by tho committee during the past season, and trusted that the membership would bn largely augmented through the addition of tho latest industry to the company's service —viz., tho mantle factory. He specially urged members to take an active and keen interest in the business and affairs qf tho library. The library v.as in a very healthy state, having a credit balance of £2 6s after paying all liabilities. The subscription for i-ix months was only Is, payable in advance. The good work dono by tho librarian (Mr J. Veitch) had to a very great extent been the means of keeping tho library well before tho employees of the factories. The nomination and election of office-bearers for the ensuing season resulted as follows: —Patroness, Mrs P. R. Sargood (re-elected); president, Mr C. S. Spa.ul (re-elected); librarian and hon. secretary, Mr J. A. Veitch (re-elected); hon. treasurer, Mr J. 11. S. Dixon; committee— Miss G. Callander (mantle room), Miss F. Simpson (shirty room). Mr M. Tait. Mr M. Thompson. Mr M. Edgar, re-elected (clothing rooms).
