A meeting ot the farmers in the district was held m tiie town Jtlall on Monday afternoon to consider the nossibiluy oi starting freezing woiks in "the district. 'J.hero was a good attendance, and although there a fair number who were in favour of the project, the general feeling seemed to be that tho district was too small to produce the requisite number of fat sheep and lambs. The meeting was adjourned without anything definite being done. A number ot those present stated that they would be willing to take shares if a company was started.
The Borough Council has accepted a tender from Mr Bryco to p<ut in a largo concrete oulvert near tho railway station by means of which tho creek will be straightened and a free gateway for the flood water be secured. This work is most necessary as tho water used to back up ut this spot and stagnate, causing most objectionable smells.
