RAILWAY COLLISION
SEVERAL PASSENGER-S INJURED. ,Pre»s Association—By Telegraphi—Copyright. SYDNEY, April 16. The express from Melbourne, drawn by two engines, collided with the Temora mail train head on at Binalong. The three engines were derailed and four carriages were damaged. ' So far as is known eight passengers were injured, one seriously, but there are no deaths. ONE PASSENGER SUCCUMBS. MEMBERS OF FEDERAL PARLIAMENT ON BOARD. SEVERAL CUT, BRUISED, AND SHAKEN. SYDNEY, April 38. (Received April 18, at 3.30 p.m.) As a result of the collision 17 people were injured. The Temora train was standing at the Binalong station, which is approached by a sharp bend, preventing, the view of the incoming train. Both trains were heavily laden with pas-' sengers. The sharp. application of the brakes of the express threw many of the passengers out of the seats and sleeping bunks, but greatly reduced the impact, which would otherwise have been disastrous. ' Mr Robert Thomas, a well-known Temora resident, has succumbed to injuries. The others are mostly suffering from cuts, bruises, and shock. Some members of the Federal Legislature were on board the express, including 'the Postmaster-general, Mr Spence, who received cuts on the face. Senator Watson received cut£ on the face and head, Senator M'Dougall cuts on the nose and knees, and representatives CJiarr and West cuts on the face. None of the cases is serious. Mr Cook was thrown out of his bunk and severely shaken., He fainted, but soon recovered. The cause of the collision is not stated.
