Evidence of the efficacy of the present system of licensed foster homes was provided at an inquest at Auckland on Friday morning by Miss Jackson, of the Industrial School, who acts as inspector of foster homes (says tho Star). Miss Jackson informed the coroner (Mr F. V. Frazcr, S.M.), that since the present Act came irto force seven or eight years ago there lad not uiufi the last few days., been a single death among foster children in Auckland from other than natural causes. Mr Frazer remarked that such evidence spoke well, for the system and for the manner in which regular inspection' was carried out by ing officers. The inquest related to the death of a child at Ponsonby from sickness, which appeared to have "hoen caused by the internal effects of soap.
