YOUNG MEN'S BIBLE CLASS UNION. annual meetings of the New Zealand Methodist Bible Class Union are being 1 held ' in Dunedin. The young men were to go into camp at Taiiuna Park, but owing u> the park being otherwise engaged (a notification of this being received only on Taeftday) tho camp is 'being held at Bishopscourt, which has been kindly placed at their disposal by the Kaikorai Grounds Cbmpany. About 70 young men are under canvaa* ond on Thursday evening they were welcomed by the Rev. F. T. Read (camp cap- " tain). The motto for the camp is "Soldiers of tho King of Kings. l ' The Biblo study meeting on Friday morning was led by Mr R. Moffat, and a paper by Mr W. L. Thomas (of Christchurch) on Recruiting," formed tho subject of discussion. .This was followed at intervals by ?u 11!eefc jpg. °f leaders and secretaries, and the preliminary business meeting. At 11 a.m. a camp conference was held, the Rev. A. J.' Seamer (President of the iNew Zealand Union) presiding. The camp captain introduced the subject of "Training and Organisation," and this was followed by a profitable discussion. In the afternoon tie annual meeting of the Union was held. Tho Rev. This withdrawal of members had interfered with tho work of the classes. l>uring the year a paper bureau had been f y° un S cr classes. The sum of £50 had: been voted to the mission rauso. Messrs M'lndoe, Hemer, and blater had represented the Union on the Peoples' Advisory • Board. The election of officers resulted as follows :-President, Rev. A. J. Seamer: vice-president&—Revs. E. YOUNG "WOMEN'S CONVENTION. The Methodist Young Women's Bible Class Union opened its tenth annual convention in Trinity, Oiurch yesterday forenoon. Ihero was a large representation of delegates from all over the dominion. : Mrs Armitage (New-Zealand president) occupied the chair, and the Rev. W, A. Hay (superintendent of the Trinity Circuit) cordially ■welcomed the convention to the church. Mrs Pinfold (president of the. Otago Union) gave a few -words of welcome on behalf of the Jocal union, and Sister Mabel, returriai thanks on behalf of, the. "visitors, Various reports were read. Auckland reported 37 classes, with a membership of 446* anganui 19 classes, membership 322; Welclasses, membership 339; Canterbury, 35 classes, membership 534-; Otago, 13 classes, membership 196. The reports were adopted, after which an interesting address on the Maori mission work was given by Sister Nellie.
The meetings were continued in the afternoon, when' interesting papers.were read by Miss Gladys Griffith , and, Sister Grace Crump. : - • ..
The young men of the Bible Class Camp were entertained by the young women at tea in the Trinity Schoolroom. The evening session was well attended. Mrs Pinfold presided, and addresses .were delivered by Mrs Armitage and the Rev. W. A. Hay, and the Rev; F. T. Readoffered up prayer. Solos were contributed by Mias Jessie .Maxwell and Mr P. Young, and anthems by : the choir,: under the oonduttorship of Mr W. R. Don. •
CIRCUIT MEETINGS. The quarterly business meeting of the Roelyn Methodist, circuit was" held -in the Roslyn Church ori Wednesday, ;the Rev. J. T. Pinfold in the chair. There was a good attendance of representatives. Tho number of members was reported the same as last quarter. . The balance sheet was presented by the "stewards (Messrs; Sewell and Jamieson), and showed that the income for tho .three months- had more tham" covered the The chairman emphasised the strong claims of the oonnexional orphanages. It was resolved that retiring collections bo taken up in behalf ,of the southern ono on April 11.- Messrs.Clyde and M'Creary were reappointed delegates to the Methodist Council. .. "...
The Maori Hill Methodist Church held its annual services on , Sunday,' when suitable sermons were preached_ by the Rejv. W. GreensladO' in the morning and Rev.' J. T. Pinfold in the evening-. Mr E. Aslin delivered an address m the afternoon. . On Wednesday night the anniversary concert and social were , held,-at which there was a large attendance. The Rev. M[r Pinfold, the pastor, occupied the chair.. Addresses were also delivered by the Rev. F. G. Cumming (Presbyterian) and. Messrs Parry (Baptist), Jamieson, and Bagshaw.. ■ These speakers all wished the church a prosperous = year, and eulogised the work of the minister, expressing the hope that he would hare .a happy and prosperous term of service in the new sphere to. which he had been . appointed. Vocal solos were rendered by the Misses Aslin, Kent, Judd, and Elsie Kaye, and Mr Slater; recitations by Miss .Rene Asliri; a quartet by Mr and Mrs Morrow, Miss Cum•ming; and Mr Parry; and an instrumental selection by Misses Pinfold and . Eva Aslin. The choir, under Mr G. Searle,. sang an anthem. Towards the end'of the meeting' Mr Bagshaw, on behalf of local friends; presented the Rev. Mr Pinfold with a monetary gift as a token of appreciation.'.
