SOUTHERN CLUB. The following are the principal clauses in the thirty-second annual report of the Southern Football Club:—The year 1914 was again a very Successful season, we having the pleasure of winning the Second and being runners-up in the Third, and being* third in the Fourth A Grade .Championships. -The committee, looked to the First 'Fifteen to do really well in the Flag Competition, bat expectations were not fulfilled, the team having to be content -with fourth jjlace. The 0.11 F.U. organised a competition between the four leading teams in aid °u e ■PS'triotic Funds, and Southern had the honour of' being the winner of this contest. The Fourth (B) and Fifth Grade, although not so high u.p in their respective grade-s, gave a good display of football in .tneir ■ matches. The . membership was again satisfactory, as the club was able to place six teams in the field of play every Saturday. The hon. membership keeps up to the usual. the drain on the lunds through presentations to members going to the "war and the non-success of the annual ball, the funds of the club are not in the_ healthy position of former years. The committee congratulates the members of the Second, Third, and Fourth 1A) on their training during the year, as their performances snow that their efforts were not in ln ', the senior-members had: shown the same' amount 1 of enthusiasni they" would," have been-much higher up in thecompetition. . Tie committee reco'mniends, .that Mr J. Wootten be elected a life-mem-ber, as he has don© faithful service to the club for many, years. It is with regret that we havo to announce the retirement of Mr S. J. Foley, assistant secretary, who has left with, the Expeditionary Force. It is very gratifying .to record' that the Empire s call for volunteers has been responded to by the members of the club,_ and the committee extends. ' o6st wishes and the hops for a- safe re* turn to the following- who have enlisted:— E. Hargreaves, A. J. Foley, R. Ross, J. M Leod, J. Berwick, J. Carnegie, A. E. Brown, F. Everest, A. {Ward. A. Eleven.— Played 20, won 17, , lost 2, drawn 1;. goals for. 67, against 23. This team, under the able leadership of their captain (Mr George Campbell), showed their marked superiority' over the opposition, and were successful in winning the Senior Cup Competition, the Charity Cup Tie, and the Charity Banner —a unique record. Second Eleven.—-Played 13, won 8, lost 5. This team, although, not winning premiership honours, did . very weil under .adverse conditions, as towards the latter "part of the season thej were called upon to supplement the Seniors, and were in conscquence often deprived of some of their best plavers. Third Eleven.—Played 11, won 9, lost 1, drawn 1; goals for" 40, against 8. Th : s team was successful in annexing 'the Cup in the Third Grade Competition, and displayed scientific football throughout the season. Fourth Grade. —This team',. although not on top, plodded along every Saturday with fair success, and tho members" are to" be congratulated on, the keenness which ■ they displayed. Training, was carried out successfully during tho season by all the teams, and'much of the success of the Seniors and the Third Grade is. due in no Small way to this very necessary item.

During the year the club lost Messrs R. W. Dancey, A. Fudge, C. H. Watson, and George Morrison, these members having joined the Expeditionary Force, and the committee join in wish inn them a safe and speedy return, and look *o them to uphold the honour of their country in this hour of need. We also regret having lost through removal from Dunedin two of our most enthusiastic members—viz., Mr Harold .Green and Mr E. T. Taylor! The club-is in a fairly good financial position. and an endeavour is at present being made to raise sufficient funds for the purpose of extending tho pavilion, and at tho same time shifting thp position of it.
