SWIMMING CARNIVAL

The Council of the locA Swimming Association, at a meeting- held Last evening, made final arrangements for the forthcoming visit of Duke Kahanamoku and luV companion Cunha. The visitors are duo at Wellington tomorrow, and uftor visiting Christchurch will arrive here on Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock, and both -will compoto the same evening. The programme has boon arranged to suit the visitors, and Kahana-moku-'s swim over 100 jards—his favourite distance, ami the one for which he holds the world's record —should bo an item well worth seping Included i" the programme will be home novelty events, and the ladies race is another event that will bo of interest, as amongst those in this event will bo Mies Laura Kemp, who last week swam so well at Xn-r>ier. The following- officials have been appointed' to control the carnivals on both evenings:—Referee, Mr Bannntyne ; judges —Messrs Park, Dallas, M'lndoe, and Dr Roberts; trixiri-g judges—Messrs M'lndoo, Ciivon, Matthewo ; sturter, Mr Matthews; timekeepers — Messrs Kilmnrtin, Isoaes, and Paterson; stewards—Messrs Jenkins, Meining. Dawson, and Restieaux; ladies' stewards— Missrs Rligh. fiibson, and Wilson. As there is every ■proppect of a very largo attendance to see theeo famous swimmers, tho local centre is Arranging for oxtrti seating accomrnodation at the -baths, and patrons who wish it may have seats reserved by npplying to tho Otngo Sports Depot, Prmces Btrett.
