MEAT IN AUSTRALIA

INQUIRY AS TO INCREASED COST. EVIDENCE FOE PASTORALISTS. Press Aaiociation—By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, January 27. (Received Jan. 27, at 10.25 p.m.) The inquiry into the increased price of meat was continued to-day. Evidence was tendered on behalf of the pastoralists to show that the increase was largely due to the absorption of pastoral lands for dairying purposes, an increased percentage of animals suffering from tuberculosis, and war demands, the fact that the cost of running stations was 40 per cent, above what it was 10 years ago, and the fact that the Australian Meat Company was financed from the United States.
