OTAGO AMATEUR SWIMMING ASSOCIATION

A mooting of tho Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur SAvimmmg Association was held in tho Empire Buildings last evening, Mr \V. H. Matthews in the chair. The programme of swimming evente to bedecided at the Ravensbourne regatta to bo held on February 13 was submitted. Tho events proposed were as follow:—50 Yards Local Handicap, 50 Yards and 100 Yards Open Handicaps, Greasy Polo event, and High Dive.—The programmo was approved, with the suggestion that tho Regatta Committee replace tho greasy polo event with a race for ladies. . Mr E. H. James -was appointed the delegate from tho centre to the conference of swimmers to be held at Napier on the occasion of tho frtvimming championship meeting. The meeting is to bo held on February 13. it was decided to ask Miss Kemp to swim a trial against tho watch, and that if her time prove satisfactory she bo nominated by the centre for tho ladies' championship handicap events at Napier. On tho motion of Mr Kilmartin it was decided to writo to the affiliated clubs asking them to nominate any of their members whom they might consider fast enough to render them qualified to in the New Zealand championship swimming races, and also what financial assistance the clubs would be prepared to give In connection .with the impending visit to Dunedin of the famous swimmer Duke Kahanamoku, the Chairman intimated that the sum of £15 had already been forwarded to Christchurch as the part charge on tho local centre in connection with the visit. Another.£ls had yet to be forwarded to tho governing council. A (jub-oommittee, consisting of the chairman, Messrs James, Bannatyne, and Given was appointed to arrange tho programme in connection with the big carnival, which will bo held at St. Clair on February 26 and 27. The Chairman announced that the expenses of tho meeting would probably run into £70 or £80, this amount including tho £50 quota to bo paid to tho New Zealand Council.

Tlio Secretary mentioned that another well-known swimmer in Ounha, who is also an Hawaiian, would accompany Duke Kahanamoku.

The matter of installing new seate at tho baths in view of the carnival was left in the hands of a sub-committee. It was decided that the centre associate itself with tho Belgium Relief Sports Association, whose object is to raise funds to assist distressed Belgians.
