THE WEATHER.
(Fbom Oub Own Cobrespondents.) BECKS, January 22. Tho rain registered at 8 a.m. this morning was 30 points. A nice warm rain started at daybreak, and was continuing at 8 a.m. The glass is low, and there is no wind. The rain will bo beneficial to grain crop, and tho turnips, and grass will come away well now. TAPANUI, January 22. The rainfall registered for tho 24 hours ended 9 a.m. to-day was 40 points. CROMWELL, January 22. Thero has been a splendid rainfall during the past five days. Early on Monday morning l'a'n fell for several hours, and was followed last night with a fall which set in just before midnight, and continued until nearly noon to-day, and was the most beneficial experienced for many months, and badly needed for the pastoral country and turnip crops. Shearing is now almost completed, but in the Tarras district there is a considerable quantity of wool to bo offered at the next Dunedin sale.
