ELECTION PETITION.
THE TAUMARUNUI SEAT. !Pf.b United Phess Association.) WAITARA, January 22. The election petition of Mr C. K. Wilson, the defeated candidate for Taumarunui, alleges that while 7817 votes were declared by the returning officer there are only 7649 votes accounted for by the marked rolls and other ivotes legally receivable ; that 30 -persons received ballot papers at two polling plaees; that certain persons eligible to vote were denied the riyjht,; that others not eligible actually voted; that the names of certain persons, of whom some were aliens, but naturalised, and others under legal age, were placed on the roll; that Mr Jennings himself was not duly registered, because his name appears only in Taumarunui, and he is not a resident of the Taumarunui district. The petitioner also alleges irregularities at four polling booths. In consequencc it is asked that the court (1) order a scrutiny and recount, (2) that it be determined that Mr Jennings is not elected, and (3) that the election be declared void. The petition will be heard at the February sitting of the court in New Plymouth.
