THE OTAGO MOTOR AMBULANCE FUND.

THE SECOND THOUSAND. W« propose to dose (be Ota go Motor Ambulance Fund oil the last Saturday of this month. This is subject, of course, to any arrangements that may already have boen made for special efforts to be held at a later date. The 31st January waa the day originally fixed by us as that by which wo asked for the subscription of a fund of £1000. Tho fund has now run into the last quarter of a total of £2000, and the response has generally been so gratifying that we are not without hopes that by the end of next week the whole of the second thousand will have been supplied to us. In qrder that this may be the case, however, it will be necessary that residents in the country districts who are sympathotio to the movement should forward their contributions to us without delay. \Vo are satisfied that subscriptions to tho fiuid are to be had in abundance for the mere direct asking. We have created no organisation, however, for the collection of funds in tho country. We must rely for the collection of subscriptions by personal solicitation upon the good oificos of persons interested in the movement who will undertake this service, and we shall be obliged to any residents in any portion of Otago who will act on our behalf in this particular manner. Mr Alfred Jolly, who was formerly manager of the Tapanui branch of the National Bank, and now employed as inspector for the institution, will deliver a lecture at Tapanui on show night (February 3), tho proceeds of which will be devoted to tho Otago Motor Ambulance Fund. Mr Jolly is an effective platform speaker, and as his subject will bo the " Great European War," there should be a full house. Wo hove to acknowledge the receipt of the following subscriptions:— Acknowledged up to January 16 £1120 3 9 Remitted to London 1000 0 0 Balance £120 3 9 Proceeds of sale of gift lamb at Greenfield picnic (per Mr H.
