The Wanaka will leave Port Chalmers this afternoon ior iilua, thence to Auckland, via .way ports. 'ihe Manuka will leave Wellington to-day for Sydney and liobart. After being laid up at Sydney for a couple of weeks the Maheuo resumed running on .Wednesday, when ehe sailed for Auckland. The Wairuna is due to arrive at Lyttelton on Monday next with a cargo oi coal irom jNewcastie. _ Captain J. Soott has transferred to the Xarazuu in order to relieve Captain Roberts, who has come ashore owing to illness. Captain D. Cameron has been granted holiday leave, and Captain Pryde has taken command of the Comma pro tem. Mr Chattield, second officer of the Kurow, came ashore at Port Chalmers yesterday to sit for his master's certificate. Under the auspices of the New Zeuland Shipping Company, the Somerset is expected to leave Wellington ihi6 morning for London. Trie Whakatane is due at Wellington tomorrow from Auckland to finish loading and fill up her bunkers. She will sail linal.y next Tuesday for Loudon. The Kurow arrived at Port Chalmers yesterday morning from Westport, via way ports, and proceeded to bunker the Tahiti. She will come up to Dunedin to-morrow to load for tho West CoastHaving undergone extensive overhaul, including repairs to her machinery-, the Mora •will go into commission again, and will sad from Dunedin on Monday tor the West Coast, via way porte. The Poherua is duo this morning from Westport, and will sail to-morrow for Bluff, ■where she will load a shipment of cheese for transhipment to tho Wnimana at Port Chalmers. The Monowai arrived yesterday morning from Auckland, via East Coast porte, and will sail this afternoon on her return trip. After discharging her New York cargo in Australia tue Skipton Castle will return to Dunedin about February 4 to load about 3500 bales of wool, and will afterwards fill up at other ports before leaving for London. The Wirrel is expected to arrive at Wellington to-morrow from Montreal, via Auckland. After discharging at Lyttelton and Dunedin sho will load at dominion porte, and will sail from Wellington about February 2€ for London. Captain C. M. Pearson is in charge of the U.S. and A. Line's chartered steamer Ardgarry, and has the following officers with him:—Chief, Mr S. Yeates; second, Mr T. G. B. Beard; third, Mr J. S. Thomson. Mr A. J. Ogilvio is chief engineer, Mr J. B. M'Bride second, Mr R. H. Bell third, and Mr V. Bowcn is fourth. Associated with Captain J. Mawson, of the Union Company's Karori, which has been reoomrrus&iaood, are the following officers: —Chief. What is said to be the largest cargo of wool to leave New Zealand on one bottom for Home was taken away bv the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's chartered steamer Largo Law. Aftor having loaded at Timaru, Wellington, and Napier, tho vessel returned to Wellington for coal, and cleared for London on January 12. Her huge shipment consisted of 18,837 bales of wool and 293 casks of tallow and pelts.
The entry of the Mako into tho Napier-Gisborne-Auckland service will result in an all-round change of officers on Messrs Rich ardson and Co.'s steamers. These have not yet been made public, but it is understood (says tho Post), that Messrs Allen and chief and second engineers respectively on the Ripple, will be given charge of -the M&ko's machinery. Mr H. Jenkins, chief on the Kahu, will nrobably join tho Ripple in a similar capacity, being replaced by Mr Nelson, late of the Nora Niven. Extensive changes will also bo made among the navigating officers. NEW STEAMER MAKO. Messrs Richardson and Co.'s now steamer Mako arrived at Napier from Homo, via Edith burg and Westport, on Friday last. She will bo employed in the Napier-East Coast bays-Auckland service. The vessel which is thoroughly up-to-date, has been specially built for the rapidly expanding trado of Messrs Richardson and 00., and is registered as 100 A 1 at Lloyd's. Her horse-power is 500, and nine knots per hour will be easily maintained at 400 revolutions per minute. Tho passenger accommodation is excellent, and the trim little steamer— sho can carry 356 tons dead weight on a draught of lift 6in—will be quite an acquisition to tho East Coast service, which sho will engago in immediately arrangements can bo made. The Mako came out to New Zealand in charge of Captain Santer, who will hand the vessel over to Captain Jones, now of the Squall. A BIG MEAT SHIPMENT. Leaving Wellington for London on Monday afternoon the Commonwealth and Dominion Line's steamer Indrupura took away an exceptionally large quantity of frozen produce from various New Zealand ports. The total meat shipment from New Zealand equalled 135,891 carcases of mutton and lamb. It was made up as follows : — 122,512 carcases lamb, 3?,971 carcases of mutton, 6825 quarters beef, 110 bag 3 meat. 275 crates kidneys. The Indrapura has taken tho following cargo from Wellington : —2228 bales wool, 1 bale skins, 372 casks tallow, 1 case meats, 1694 carcases mutton, 66,279 carcases lamb, 2002 quarters beef, 91 bags hearts, 265 crates kidneys. ARRIVAL OF THE WAIMANA. Early yesterday morning the troopship Waimana arrived from Alexandria, having left that port 12 days after the departure of the Tahiti and Maunganui. Her return voyage was uneventful. She went into dock last evening for cleaning and painting, after which she will have her transport fittings dismantled, prior to loading wool, cheese, and other produce for London.
